This personal work, made in an edition of 5 prints, was created in Spring of 2022. The content of the work is inspired by the cover of an instrumental album I had listened to around that time.
The piece itself is meant as a visualization of my own struggle with social media, and sharing myself online. I want to share what I make, and who I am, but at the same time I am concerned that I won't fit into the 'perfect' reality of social media, filled with it's celebrities and icons. So, instead of putting myself out there I have largely kept myself off of social media. Each element is a part of this concept, with the static white and pink making everything messy, the eyes trying to peer into my life, the hands reaching in, even caressing my face, trying to tempt me into being more online. In the background of the piece, behind everything but the white, is a monologue I wrote about this exact struggle. Of course, it was intentionally covered, to keep this back and forth of wanting to share and wanting to stay in my own bubble.
